Picture this: You need a website. You contact a web designer and discuss the layout, the functionality, the build fee and the hosting cost. Done deal. Seems pretty cut and dry, or is it?
What happens when you no longer want their services? What happens if you move your website to another host? Will you be stuck paying for a premium site builder license you never asked for? These may not be upfront hidden fees, but if you part ways with your developer, will you be free to edit your site without paying more fees?
Well, I think this is a poor way to build websites for people. It is my mission to build beautiful fully functional websites without becoming dependent on these premium site builders. Frankly, it is my opinion that they are not needed.
With a little knowhow and some custom coding, I can build a website that will never cost you another dime to edit it unless you chose to upgrade it. If you would like to install premium plugins and themes, that is your right to do so. I do not feel it is my right to sign you up for a subscription you never asked for.
This is why I am a huge fan of Open Source Software. This software belongs to the people. It is free to use, modify and share. It is true freedom. This is why I only use Linux computers and open source software. Some programs may not have every bell and whistle, but it a small price to pay to be free.
